Sub-Zero is a prominent character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise. The mantle of Sub-Zero has been held by two brothers throughout the series' history.
The original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat (1992). He is a Lin Kuei assassin known for his cryomancy, the ability to control ice. He is killed by Scorpion in the first tournament.
His younger brother, Kuai Liang, takes up the Sub-Zero mantle after Bi-Han's death. He possesses similar ice-based powers and seeks to avenge his brother while defending Earthrealm. Kuai Liang is the more commonly known Sub-Zero.
Both brothers' control over ice makes them formidable warriors. The Sub-Zero character is associated with signature moves like the ice ball and ice slide.
